DAMON BRACES
Wider, More Attractive Smiles With More Comfort

Damon Braces make your smile broader and healthier in less time and with greater comfort than traditional braces.
The Damon System achieves a smile that is more beautiful and natural. Studies have shown that a fuller smile with a broader arch is more attractive. Damon braces are clinically proven, with over 7 million smiles delivered in the last twenty years.
Just like traditional braces, the Damon System uses archwires and brackets to move teeth. But while traditional braces have elastic bands surrounding each bracket, Damon uses a self-ligating system to connect archwires to brackets instead of elastic ties. Steel City Orthodontics offers the Damon System as an option for straightening teeth.
How Are Damon Braces Different From Traditional Braces?
Damon braces are similar to other orthodontic systems to straighten teeth. The primary difference between this system and others, though, is how they straighten teeth. Traditional braces use elastic ties to hold archwires in place, and these elastic ties create friction on the archwire, which can slow treatment down. The Damon System uses a patented slide mechanism to connect archwires to the bracket while allowing the wire to move freely, reducing friction and improving oral hygiene by eliminating elastic ties.
The slide mechanism brackets of Damon braces have a door mechanism that is opened and closed to hold the tooth-aligning wires. These braces allow for greater freedom of tooth movement with much less discomfort because lighter forces are used. Since there are no elastic ties to loosen with time, the interval between appointments is much longer. The Damon system allows for appointment intervals of 8-12 weeks, twice as long as traditional braces. Self-ligating Damon braces are gentler on your teeth and require fewer appointments.
Advantages Of Damon Braces
Will Damon Braces Work For You?
Damon braces work as well as other systems for many issues such as an overbite, an underbite, uneven teeth, or crowded teeth. The Damon System is used to treat many dental problems, but the orthodontists at Steel City Orthodontics can determine if they’re the right system for you.
Caring For Damon Braces
In-between visits to Steel City Orthodontics, caring for your Damon braces is entirely up to you. Taking care of your teeth is more difficult when you have braces because the wires and brackets create endless spaces for food and plaque to get trapped. It is essential that you brush after each meal, floss once a day, and rinse with mouthwash. Being conscious of your hygiene now may prevent more permanent issues down the road, such as decalcification and gum disease.
Brushing
Flossing
Floss your teeth once a day or more if needed. Flossing helps remove debris that brushing is not able to remove. To floss, thread the floss between each bracket underneath the wire. Once the floss is under the wire, floss between each tooth as you normally would. Threading the floss can be tricky. It is helpful to use a floss threader, super flosser or floss pick. Using a water pick or air flosser removes food particles and can help stimulate the gum tissue and keep it healthy.
